Exhibition at the Historical museum, University of Oslo: 17. january until 06. june 2001
The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is commemorated on november first and second each year with great revelry. The entire family gets together to honor both the living and the dead.
The exhibition was made by the Danish social anthropologist Ditte Marie Seeberg. The skeleton figures and mythical paper-mache figures Alebrijes have been created by Mexican artists. The exhibition also incorporates a short film about Manuel Gomez de Rosas, who operates a paper-mache workshop in Mexico. The art of handicraft is a family legacy, and de Rosas comments that he can't live without the spark of life that having skeletons around him gives.
