By displaying it among traditional decorated objects from Polynesia we may discover some of the connections Filipe explores in his art and share some of his fascination with a Polynesian creative tradition.
The Triggerfish
The aluminum sculpture Humu (Triggerfish), which forms the axis of the exhibition, was purchased from Filipe Tohi in 2008. According to Filipe, it is a direct descendant of the most basic lalava pattern: an ‘X’ within a square.
