Bound in a strong net on the Austral Islands (Raeva’eva’e)

Bildet kan inneholde: tre, symmetri, mønster, tilbehør til musikkinstrumenter, mote tilbehør.

These objects are often called ceremonial paddles. They were collected on the Austral Islands in the early 19th century and were among the first objects in the museum’s ethnographic collection. The carved pattern of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines makes a fine-meshed net that binds the paddle in a total embrace.

Bildet kan inneholde: rektangel, stol, naturlig materiale, kunst, ull.
