The exhibition Generation Stone Age is built around Sol, Svane and Rav – three individuals who guide you through the first eight thousand years of Norway’s history. They were people like us, but they lived in a different time and faced different challenges.
Be among the very first to experience the exhibition and find out how well you would cope in their world.
Programme
6 PM: Official opening of the exhibition. Speeches and mini-concert by Sebastian Zalo
From 6:15 PM: Try life as a Stone Age human – activity stations both inside the museum and outside the main entrance.
Taste the Stone Age diet
Oysters, berries, fish – the Stone Age menu was surprisingly tasty, yet quite different from what we eat today. What do you think of the flavours?
Hold a real Stone Age axe
Get close to the past: we bring out original Stone Age axes that you can hold in your hands. They were made many thousands of years ago by people living in the same area where we live now.
Make your own flint tools
Discover how Stone Age people produced sharp, sophisticated tools simply by knapping flint. Try one of humanity’s oldest technologies together with experimental archaeologist Morten Kutchera.
NB: This activity takes place outdoors by the museum’s main entrance.
Create your own rock carvings
Rock carvings were the visual stories of the Stone Age – journeys, rituals and symbols were carved into stone.
Meet the Stone Age experts
The archaeologists behind the exhibition will answer questions and talk about the research and work that led to Generation Stone Age. Meet Hege Damlien and Axel Mjærum.
